So, tonight something exciting happened...  I was inspired to begin a blog!!!  Blips and blurbs that I want to share with the world often enter my mind, so I pondered the idea for all of 7 seconds, and well,, here I am...at the beginning of my blog.  Eeek, exciting!!!  Where to begin, what will I write about?...fear not, these thoughts never entered my mind...I've no need to ponder what to write about, my brain is on overdrive in the department of the radom thought factor and this makes for- lucky you- the reader!!!

So, first on the list, is it true that paint color is an expression of your personality...?  I think my home would be a reflective and resounding "YES!!!" to this question...  Color has a psychological effect for certain (hint: blue is said to calm and subdue the appetite...hmm, I think many of us might need to rethink our kitchen color, haha).  Ok, so does this mean we choose certain colors based on certain wavelengths in our thinking/personality?!

If you stop and look around in your home, you are probably able to pick up on a theme (or two).  We might step out occasionally but most of us have a proclivity for certain types of shades, and there is a definite reason behind it...(it has been said that my leaning is almost always toward some hue or shade of pink, whether soft baby pink or bold, bright, beautiful, wow pink...and ok, yes, I might POSSIBLY agree).  So, what is the reasoning behind our color choices???  What, you may ask, do these color choices reflect about our personalities..?

Research shows that colors that are warm and associated with sunshine and roaring fires, such as yellow, orange, rose, pink (yay, here is my favoritest color- pink, let's see what it says..?)- these colors have a cheerful, welcoming effect in their personality...and most likely, so do you  We get a fuzzy, warm feeling from these colors that goes beyond symbolism of what they represent in the physical world.  Because of their brightness, warm shades appear to spring forward, literally making a room feel more intimate; cool hues, on the other hand, seem to recede, expanding a space.

If you are drawn to blues and their brethren, you probably view your home as an oasis of calm in a hectic world.  You may also be a bit of an introvert (no negative implication).  In studies, people tend to associate pale to medium blues, lavenders, and greens with the sky, a body of water or  a wide-open field- elements we perceive as being tranquil and soothing.  Relaxed and calm people tend to gravitate to these colors, or those who long to feel calm and relaxed.  I have my bathroom in a shade of teal/blue and it certainly is relaxing when sitting in a warm, soothing bubble bath.

Then there are those individuals who are drawn towards jewel tones...the glittery, bold, bright, and beautiful tones...  Colors that seem plucked from the red carpet on Oscar night- ruby, emerald, sapphire, amethyst, topaz, fuschia,- these colors lend instant va-va-voom and wow to a space- and just like these colors, you are probably outgoing, confident and super creative!!!  The wonderful thing about these colors is they can make a room without much architectural interest feel glamorous, create intimacy in an imposing space, and play up the coziness in a small room  These colors are my favorites and my home reflects it!!!

And last but certainly not least, if you gravitate  towards neutrals...like rocks along the coast or monuments of marble or granite- colors like gray, brown,  beige, and ivory have a feeling of permanence and a crisp, classic look.  If this appeals to you, you are probably even-keeled and practical, and not interested in re-painting your rooms every few years because you’ve tired of the shades.  You may also be in on a trade secret: earthy walls allow you to use more color in your accessories and furnishings...if you have a neutral backdrop then you can allow the pops of color you add in accessories to really shine...or add lots of texture and mix dark and light to create great contrast.  A space with great contrast and heavy mixings of texture and patterns ensure that the eye is always moving, making it impossible to say that this space is boring!!!  (hint: zebra or leopard print go superb in this setting)!!!

In conclusion, I think it is safe to say that color is definitely reflective of our thoughts and personalities...and this means we can truly learn A LOT about one another and ourselves by what we surround ourselves with, even starting with the color of our walls!!!  HOW NEAT IS THAT?!  I say, pretty neat for sure!!!

Well, now I know why my apartment complex painted the walls of my apartment tan/beige/white. A sneaky plot to retain tenants. It works for now but it was nice when I lived within walking distance of a grocery and drugstore.

Excellent writing! Not sure how I feel about the article though cause I don't fall into any one criteria specifically?! Apparently, one can use neutrals due to the desire to accent with color for practicality, yet love a nice, blue wall or 2 in the home for that calming effect & the occasional pop of color accent wall for fun! Either I'm just that creative or just that confused!!!

We may not fall into one criteria specifically Stacy, however, we do know that color evokes emotion and thereby says a lot about us when we choose to surround ourselves with certain colors!!! You can be equally fun and creative alongside the desire to have a calming blue :) ...they may go hand in hand even, to create the perfect balance just for YOU!!! We are all unique, so no two patterns for color choosing are exactly identical, hence making for many creative homes... :) Thanks for sharing!!!

That is so cool. You are always so creative & I think your walls are very very pretty. Now I think I know why I just hate the colors of my walls cuz I just figured it out from reading your blog & it seems that I need colors & not just any colors but the right colors that should be suitable to what each room is & the way I want to feel or do feel in that room. You're the best!

Tami, you are super kind and thank you so much!!! I think you are right, a new color choice in certain rooms in your home may be just the token to change up the aura within your spaces... Even some pops of fun color may add the perfect pizzazz!!! You're the best as well!!! Thanks :)

That is so true. I do associate blue with the sky and ocean for a soothing feel but I do like my brights too. How does that work for clothing? I love navy blue clothing but I won't wear super bright colors like neon green or orange unless it's swim shorts. Anyways great little article. Way to go Christie.

I think you are onto something Scott, and the fact that you like your brights in color choice for a space, but not clothing might mean that you need to venture out more and let the real YOU shine!!! Or maybe you like to give off more of a reserved version of Scott...either way, I am glad you see how your color palette is a reflection of feelings or feelings you long to evoke in a space!!! Thanks a million Scott...very kind :)
